Acting Out Emotions: How to help children identify their feelings
Our faces look different when we feel different emotions. Helping young children recognize the physical changes that occur when we are experiencing emotions will better help them identify and express how they are feeling.
Pick an emotion and then change your face to match the emotion you chose. Then act the emotion out. Think about common body lanauge associated with your chosen emotion.
Ask your child to guess what emotion you are feeling. Take turns guessing what emotions you and your child have chosen. When discussing your emotions try saying, "Sometimes when I feel sad, I frown with my mouth. My lips press down and are bent. "
