BINGO: Making Letter Recognition Fun!
Memorization routines and constant "drill and kill" practices can cause fatigue, resentment, and boredom in young children. When young children are given the opportunity to play, they are able to apply their knowledge in new context, integrating knowledge they have with new knowledge they are learning. Its for this reason that an approach through play mindset is a much more effective one with young children.
Using these attached BINGO sheets, play BINGO by calling out letter names and/or making letter sounds. Try to allow plenty of time for your child to identify the letter or at least take a guess before offering assistance. This will make letter identification a fun activity to do together, rather than a chore.
If you don't have a printer at home, we have alternative ways to play! Feel free to draw these sheets on paper or cardboard. You can then cover the letters called with any household items you have.
And if the weather is nice, take the fun outside with some sidewalk chalk! Create a similar grid outside and fill the spaces with random letters. Once you call the letter, you can have your child jump over to the letter called. This is a fun way to learn letters and grow gross-motor muscles.
