Letter Collage: Finding And Identifying Letters
As young children become more familiar with letters, they will be able to identify them in various ways, such as in books, magazines, signs and labels. This activity is useful in growing young children's natural curiosity about letters, as well as their fine motor skills.
Collect old newspapers, magazines or any print media that is going to be thrown out. Using a pair of scissors, have your child cut out the letters they would like in their collage. Have your child glue or tape the letters they cut out onto a clean sheet of paper. They can make words, spell their name, or just make a silly picture; the choice is theirs!
Support your child by talking about how the letters look and what the letter is called. For children who are first learning how to cut or identify letters, start with print the is large and in bold. These forms of print are easier to identify and cut out.
