Putting Away And Sorting: Making Categorizing Fun

Laundry can be boring when its done alone. Why not find a  buddy to help get the job done. Find different and creative ways to sort your laundry. Allow children to put their clothes in piles that think have similar traits. Maybe it's all the pants together, all red things together, or all the unicorn shirts on one shelve?

Young children naturally categorize their environments, it can be as simple as recognizing things that are familiar or unfamiliar. Children can also categorize by one or two  simple attributes, such as color, size, or shape. When young children are given the opportunity to categorize they observe, learn, and then apply.

This activity can easily be transferred to sorting and putting away toys, dishes, and books. The key is to make it fun and exciting for the child!
